Life doesn't come with a handbook.
Most people are expected to navigate money, work, housing, bills and financial decisions as they go. Yet the choices we make today can shape our opportunities, wellbeing and future for years to come.
Debt Talk exists to help people navigate that journey with confidence.
Founded in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, one of the UK's most diverse communities, Debt Talk CIC was established in response to a recognised need for greater financial awareness and accessible financial support within the British Bangladeshi community. Today, we proudly serve people from all backgrounds, helping individuals, families and communities develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to make informed financial decisions and build stronger financial futures.
Debt Talk CIC is the first British Bangladeshi-led organisation authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to provide regulated debt advice, combining lived experience, professional expertise and trusted community relationships to improve financial wellbeing and tackle financial exclusion.
We believe everyone deserves access to clear, honest, impartial and practical financial guidance, regardless of their circumstances or starting point. Through FCA-authorised debt advice, financial education, community campaigns, partnerships and innovative projects, we empower people to understand how money works in everyday life, make informed choices and take control of their financial future.
Our frontline advice services give us first-hand insight into the devastating impact that debt, poverty and financial exclusion can have on individuals, families and communities. We know that financial hardship affects far more than money: it can damage health, wellbeing, confidence, relationships and future opportunities.
That's why our mission extends beyond helping people overcome financial crisis. We are equally committed to preventing problems before they arise by improving financial literacy, building resilience, promoting early intervention and challenging the stigma that too often surrounds debt and poverty. We believe that empowering people with knowledge today can transform lives tomorrow.
At Debt Talk, we don't lecture, blame or judge.
We listen. We support. We educate. We empower.
Our goal is to ensure that everyone regardless of background, income or circumstance, has the confidence, knowledge and support to make informed financial decisions and live with greater security, dignity and hope.

Breaking Point to Breaking Through reveals a hidden debt crisis affecting Bangladeshi Londoners, based on community consultations with over 45 residents, frontline workers and statutory organisations in Tower Hamlets.
Despite 63% of Bangladeshi Londoners living in poverty, there is no dedicated, culturally responsive debt advice service for this community. The report shows how shame and honour (izzat), faith-based barriers to interest, informal lending, remittance pressures and intergenerational trauma combine to push families into crisis before they seek help.
